This article really helps a lot. I have a lot of the same issues that Lamott talks about with the voices and beating yourself up over negative thoughts that just continuously run through my mind. I have to learn how to take those little voices, throw them into a mason jar, and put a lid on it. Once I have control over the negate thoughts, I can forget about them and move on to the positive thoughts that are going to help me finish my paper. I love how Lamott was talking about just how shitty the first draft is and how its okay and actually normal for the first draft to be so terrible. As long as I pull good ideas from that first draft, I can start to create my second draft which should then be put together a little better, but not perfectly. That is where I was going wrong as well. First draft, second draft, revise and done. Actually, its more like shitty first draft, kind of put together second draft, almost there third draft, and fine tune the fourth, then, its down to structure and APA format. This was an awesome article to read. It really helps to see that I'm just like everyone else and I'm not the only one with these issues. Stop with the other voices, and draft, draft, draft, draft. Also, revise and share.
