- What do I need to do to transform my question into an 8-10 page essay?
- In order for me to turn my essay question into an 8-10 page answer, I am going to need guidance and a lot of reassurance! I am trying not to think about the length because I have noticed now that when I think about the length requirement, it takes me a lot longer to sit down and start writing. I need to know in which direction I am heading specifically or I will get confused along the way and steer into an unnecessary direction. I tend to start incorporating ideas into my essay that weren’t part of the initial question and I just want to know if that is normal… or if I need to stop getting distracted by other possible issues of the question and stick to my original question. I am going to need a great bubble cluster and very detailed pre-work so that I know what each paragraph is going to be about and all I have to do is some research and filling in the blank so the outline.
- The status of my primary research?
- No I have not started it. I have a few ideas on how to conduct my primary research but not enough. Even then, I feel like my primary research is very typical and I don’t know if that is okay or if it is not okay. I know that primary research includes surveys and research into personal testimonies of people who have answers to my question. So far I have chosen to look through blog sites and tweets to find out how the students really feel about being DHH and learning to write in English and I can also interview the deaf instructor here at Nevada State, but what else could I do as primary research? We need about 5 different sources of primary research and I don’t know what else to use. I have however written out a few questions to use in a survey if I were to conduct one, but even then, I don’t know if I could find the right group for the survey. For my survey, I need a class of students, primarily made up of deaf students. I know that we have ASL courses at the college but there aren’t deaf students in those classes, the class if full of English speaking students attempting to learn how to sign. Where am I going to get a class full of DHH students to complete my survey before the essay is due? I am nervous. And the apprehension has begun. My hands and feet literally just got sweaty thinking about this.
- What additional secondary research will I add?
- I could add the internet now that I have all of my peer reviewed articles in my first essay for this topic. I could also read a book or maybe an autobiography would be great to get more personal testimony on how a certain person or group of people feels about the struggles that come with learning how to read and write in English as a DHH student.
- What steps will I take to ensure this is the best paper I can write?
- I am going to get over myself and write every day until the paper is due. If I sit down for a few hours every day and put some real thought into my essay each time I sit down, I can finish ahead of time. Then maybe I will have time to take my essay to the writing center or email it to you, Dr. Robinson, to review it and get pointers on how to make it better. I am hoping to stay determined throughout this process because that is usually a challenge for me. Big picture time. I will write my essay in a goaled out time for myself, take it to the writing center, and them email it to you so that I can get the most help available to me.
